Commissioned by the New York Health & Racquet Club for their 23rd Street location, Fighters in Red and Black were on view from 2014-15 in the club’s main lobby. Placed on opposite sides of the corridor, visitors were obliged to walk in between the battling contenders as they entered and exited the building. Combining reclaimed wood with organic and artistic materials, Holiber created these imaginary heroes that were simultaneously uncanny and attractive, offering the viewer an eye-catching display of color, texture, and dimension.
